The Body Sensations Wheel

Your body’s been trying to tell you something. This tool helps you listen.

The Body Sensations Wheel is your go-to when your stomach’s in knots, your chest is tight, or your jaw’s doing the absolute most, but you can’t quite name why. Because here’s the thing: emotions don’t always start in your brain. They show up in your body first.

This tool helps you connect those weird, sneaky, physical sensations to the real emotions underneath: the ones you’ve maybe been avoiding, or didn’t even realize were there.

Designed as the sibling to our best-selling Feelings Wheel, it offers a simple, linear path to help you move from “what the hell is this feeling in my body?” to “oh, that’s what’s going on.” And like all of our tools, it’s printed on durable, flexible laminate, built to handle whatever your nervous system throws at it.

Use it in therapy, in your parked car, or during a middle-of-the-night spiral. It’s a check-in tool, a grounding tool, and a reminder: your body is not the enemy. It’s just trying to talk to you.

How it Works

Step 01

Locate the sensation

Locate an area of your body that is experiencing a physical sensation. Then, find that body part on one of The Body Sensations Wheel's six petals (i.e. "whole body")

Step 02

Identify the sensation

Use the first row of words on the wheel to locate the specific sensation you're experiencing (i.e. "strong").

Step 03

Make the connection

Explore which emotions the sensation may be connected to in the second row (i.e. "empowered").

Be sure to reflect on your identified emotion and take note of patterns you notice, as well as considering if any coping skills are needed. Remember that everyone experiences emotions differently, so feel free to utilize the wheel as a starting point and diverge from the options provided.

An Essential Tool for Enhancing Somatic Awareness in Therapy

As a therapist, I find the Body Sensations Wheel by Feelings Found to be a valuable tool for helping clients connect with their bodies and identify where they feel emotions physically. The visual layout of the wheel makes it easy to pinpoint sensations and explore the emotional connections behind them. It’s been a great resource for clients working on somatic awareness and those struggling to articulate how emotions manifest in their bodies. I highly recommend this tool for clinicians who want to deepen clients' connection between mind and body.

Identifying Emotions in the Body

I can't say enough positive things about the Body Sensations Wheel. My healing journey after trauma has involved trying to stay within my body to experience somatic sensations, rather than disassociate. This Wheel gives me a better understanding about bodily reactions that likely stem from certain emotions. I feel so much less in the dark -- this is truly guiding light for me.

Really helpful tool!

I love this Body Sensations Wheel, it’s great to use together with clients but so small and cute I would also encourage them to get their own to keep with them on-the-go if needed! Find the words to describe our feelings can be difficult at time, and being able to help clients identify WHERE their sensations are can be really helpful for making deeper connections.
